Protection of biogas plants

  • Completion date
    October 2019
  • Project type
    Concrete repair and protection

One of the most heavily loaded areas of the concrete surface inside biogas plants is the gas zone, the zone above the liquid level. This is due to the impact of aggressive acids, which are the products of the vital activity of bacteria living in the pores of the concrete. The pH level tends to 1, respectively, the loads exceed the standard indicators of the XA3 environment class for operating conditions. In European standards, this class of loads refers to XBSK - biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion.

Work completed

Сoncrete corrosion protection

Before applying the anti-corrosion coating, preparation was carried out - grinding and dust removal to open the pores of the concrete, application of an epoxy thixotropic primer coating to ensure high adhesion.

Coatings for biogas plants

A special product for XBSK zones, resistant to acidic environments with low pH levels, EP Universal, was used. The material was applied mechanically in three layers.
